An Afternoon at the Orto Botanico di Palermo, Sicily

Any time we travel to a new city, we try to make a point of visiting the local botanical or public gardens. This past July we were fortunate enough to travel to Italy and spend an afternoon at the Orto Botanico di Palermo in Sicily, which is over 200 years old. It was a breathtaking and vibrant oasis offering a truly peaceful escape from the bustle of the busy city. The Orto boasts an amazing, vibrant collection of various flora, many enormous sprawling banyan and ficus trees, a huge cactus garden, a pond of giant pink lotuses and water lilies - and even a dinosaur skeleton! Here is a tiny glimpse of some of our very favourite plants from the gardens. - xo AE
